My stay at the Shanghai Baixia Pagoda Hotel had its ups and downs. The location was convenient for getting around, but the communication barriers were frustrating. While my room was clean and had good amenities, I experienced issues with Wi-Fi security that left a sour taste. Overall, it's decent for the price but not without its disappointments.

Rooms
6.0
My room was non-smoking and appeared clean, but it smelled of smoke upon arrival. It also felt a bit dated. The full-length windows made the space feel cold, especially when the heating didn't seem to work properly. Having the usual amenities was nice, but overall, it was just average.
Service
5.0
The reception staff seemed nervous when I checked in, and there was a significant language barrier throughout my stay. While one staff member was quite helpful in arranging a taxi to Disney, many others, including those in the dining areas, struggled with English. It made some interactions quite difficult and frustrating.
Location
7.0
I found the hotel's location ideal for my needs, especially since it was a short walk to the West Shanghai Railway Station. However, I can see how it's probably not the best choice for those wanting to be close to main tourist attractions. A clearer sign for the hotel from the roadside would have been helpful too.
Dining
6.0
I tried the Chinese restaurant, and while the food was fresh and reasonably priced, the service was lacking. I had to flag someone down to get the bill, and there was a weird charge for a can of coke. Breakfast was decent the one time I had it, with a variety of options, but overall, the dining experience left something to be desired.
Facilities
6.0
The hotel offers a range of typical amenities like room service and housekeeping. Unfortunately, I encountered issues like the lack of room cleaning on one day of my stay. Overall, they provide some key facilities, but they fell short in service delivery.

My stay at the Shanghai Baixia Pagoda Hotel had its highs and lows. The hotel itself is beautiful and the staff is quite friendly, especially towards western guests. However, the location is a bit off the beaten path and the Wi-Fi connection was a hassle. Overall, a good experience, but there were definitely areas for improvement.

Rooms
8.0
I found the room spacious and clean, which was a plus. However, I had requested connecting rooms well in advance and was disappointed to find they weren't available upon arrival (our kids were too young to be down the hall alone).
Service
8.0
The staff was polite and accustomed to western culture, which made me feel welcome. Nonetheless, the experience with breakfast hours was confusing, especially with price variations depending on the timing.
Location
6.0
The hotel's location is somewhat inconvenient (it's far from major attractions), and I found the signage could be better for navigating to and from the hotel. There are shops nearby, but not much else.
Dining
7.0
I only tried the breakfast included with my stay. I was surprised by the rising prices depending on when you go (it's $10 before 8:00 a.m. and $25 after). The breakfast area was also quite chilly, which detracted from the experience.
Facilities
7.0
The hotel boasts lovely gardens and a pool, but I had to buy shower caps beforehand (they're required to use the pool). The fitness center felt a bit outdated, though it had enough equipment for a workout.

7.4/10

I had a mostly pleasant stay at the Shanghai Baixia Pagoda Hotel. The location was convenient for public transport, though a bit far from major attractions. The rooms were clean but had a lingering smell of smoke, and the breakfast was reasonably priced with a good variety.

Rooms
6.0
The room I stayed in was supposed to be non-smoking but had a noticeable smell of smoke upon my arrival. It was clean, but it needed some updates.
Service
7.0
The staff was mostly friendly and helpful, especially during check-in. However, there were moments when service could be improved, like the Chinese restaurant staff who did not check in on us after serving our meal.
Location
7.0
The hotel is about a five-minute walk from Shanghai West Metro Station, making it manageable for getting around the city, although it's not close to major tourist spots.
Dining
8.0
I found the breakfast to be great, with a wide selection for just 65¥ after 9:45 am, which is a real bargain compared to the usual price of 136¥.
Facilities
6.0
The hotel offers standard amenities like room service and housekeeping, but my room wasn't cleaned on my second day until I had to remind them.

5.8/10

My stay at the Shanghai Baixia Pagoda Hotel was a mixed experience. While the hotel's beautiful decor and clean rooms were a plus, the service and language barrier created some challenges. Additionally, the location, while convenient for public transport, felt a bit far from the main attractions.

Rooms
7.0
The room I stayed in was clean and had full-length windows, but I noticed it got quite cold. I also encountered some noise from road works after having the windows opened by housekeeping.
Service
6.0
Service was polite, but I often found language barriers with the staff, which made communication challenging. On my arrival, the check-in process felt rushed, and I did not receive adequate information regarding hotel amenities.
Location
6.0
The location of the hotel is close to the Shanghai West Railway Station, making public transport manageable, but it is somewhat distant from the city center and major tourist attractions.
Dining
7.0
I only had breakfast one morning, which had a wide variety of selections and was worth the price. However, dining with the language barrier was difficult, and I had issues with my bill at the Chinese restaurant.
Facilities
7.0
The hotel had various services like room service and dry cleaning available, which were convenient. However, I did not utilize many facilities during my short stay.
